Construction upgrades to listed buildings represent unique challenges and St. Peter’s in Hereford was a large city centre Church with a reputation for being cold, dark and difficult to access.
Working with Communion Architects, the aim here was to reorder the interior to create a comfortable, open-plan and multiuse space which would complement the property’s historical purpose.
The solution incorporated the removal of the old pews and the installation of under-floor heating, new and elegant timber flooring, modern subtle LED lighting and an adaptable kitchen facility.
The welcoming and contemporary community space that has been created now appropriately serves the Church’s wider mission.
Highly praised by the client and users, this contract was a finalist in the prestigious LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Awards 2013.
